Anonymous asked: Not to be rude or start anything, but I'm just genuinely curious as to what your reasons are for being a fan of Kate? Other than the fact that she wears pretty outfits and is beautiful, I don't see anything super special about her. I was just wondering what the logic was there, as she has yet to do any meaningful work or show a desire to work, so there's not many solid reasons to be a fan of hers IMHO. Again, I'm just wondering what the MM logic is :)
Well, first of all - there doesn’t need to be a “solid reason” to be a fan of anyone. If someone LIKES someone, that is their prerogative and barring the person they’re a fan of being a completely horrible person (Hitler comes to mind), there is no reason they should need to defend it.
Second, I do not consider myself an MM - while I am a fan of Catherine, I also see her flaws (some of which being that she didn’t work in the whole time leading up to her wedding, and her clothes are a a bit extravagant when it comes to price) which is something that some MM’s aren’t willing to acknowledge. I also wouldn’t get into a death match over how amazing Catherine is with someone who isn’t a Catherine fan as some MM’s are willing to do. If someone doesn’t like her, that’s fine by me.
Now - to answer your question. I’ve been a fan of Catherine since well before the royal wedding, or before the engagement was ever announced. So - considering that fact, I pretty much became a Catherine fan because she’s pretty, and managed to snag a Prince. There was no other logic behind it, and I wasn’t anticipating the day she would be come Queen. When I started following her, I honestly didn’t anticipate she and William getting married. (It’s also probably helpful to note that I am HUGE into following Hollywood celebrities.)
Now, regarding Catherine’s work, or her desire to work, I’d say that we need to give her more than 1 year to show her stuff. It’s been said - since the engagement - that Catherine and William would NOT become full-time working royals until William has finished his RAF duties. Soon he will be deciding whether or not to sign on for another 3 years, but I doubt that will happen, due to his grandmother’s old age. And regardless of that, until William ups his duties, Catherine can’t up hers - it would be inappropriate for her to outshine her husband. When he was in the Falklands, she did numerous solo engagements and she did a truly fantastic job, and I think that had a lot to do with the fact that William was working (and the whole world knew it) - so it was okay if she did too, it wouldn’t put either of them in a bad light. If Catherine was doing engagements and William wasn’t people would say he was the lazy one. And if William had been in the Falklands and Catherine was only out shopping or something, people would say she is the lazier one.
In the meantime, due to the press attention that Catherine seems to get, it’s no surprise that in the lead up to The Jubilee she has kept a low profile. She attended the Garden Party and her face was splashed across every website and magazine, there’s no reason for Her Majesty to share HER spotlight with Catherine. Catherine will have her time to shine.
So … long story short, I became a Catherine fan because she was pretty. But I think that she is going to do a wonderful job in her role in the British Royal Family, and we’ve just got to wait for things to settle down in her personal life before we critique her public life.
